Aishwarya Rai Bachchan lost her Father to Cancer this year. A former Ms. World, a super model, at one time the number one actress in Bollywood, Aishwarya was a force to reckon with even before her marriage to Abhishek Bachchan, the scion of the Bachchan family.
Abhishek’s father, Amithabh Bachchan, is Bollywoods and Indias biggest actor. Even at the age of 75, he is still going strong with the meatiest roles still being written for him. He comes up with a mind blowing performance each time and outshines all other actors. He turned 75 years of age this year. However, as his daughter in law had lost her father, he did not celebrate his birthday. How can one celebrate a birthday when theres been a death in the family he asked.
The Bachchans host a Diwali party each year. The entire Bollywood industry views for an invite to the Bachchan Diwali party. But due to the demise of Aishwarya’s father, the Bachchans cancelled their Diwli party this year. The family was in mourning and were grieving with their daughter in law, Aishwarya.
Abhsihek and Aishwarya have been married for over 10 years and have abeautiful daughter, Aaradhya. The little girl, as you would expect, is the centre of attention wherever she goes. She understands that she is a part of a family which is constantly under media glare and she seems to be handling this quite well. She is photographed and surrounded by the media wherever she goes.
Aishwarya, on her late father’s birth anniversary this year, attended an event at a hospital. She was accompanied by her mother, Vrindaa Rai and her daughter, Aaradhya. At the event, Aishwarya announced that she would bear the costs of surgery for 100 children with cleft lips. She did this in the memory of her late father. It was a solemn occasion. However, without caring for the gravity and seriousness of the occasion, the photographers and media present at the event jostled, screamed and argued for photo opportunities and Aishwarya had to ask them to behave themselves as this was not an Awards Function or a Film premiere. This incident seems to have affected young Aaradhya too and the Bachchan family now is contemplating on curtailing Aaradhya’s public appearances.
Another incident took place sometime ago, and this time, it involved Aishwarya and her husband, Abhishek Bachchan. All in the film industry will vouch that Abhishek Bachchan is one very well brought up man. He is known for his grace and poise in the presence of the media. Even though he is known as the least successful Bachchan, he takes it in his stride and has never allowed these things to bother him. Abhishek and Aishwarya recently attended a party at one of their friends place. They were seen leaving the party together and were ambushed by a photographer who kept on clicking pictures while Aishwarya was getting into the car. Abhishek suspected that Aishwarya may have been captured inappropriately and spoke to the photographer about not taking such pictures. This issue is being blown out of proportion in the media currently and will die its natural death.
Not only in India, this attitude of the Paparazzi is a global phenomena. The core issue here is, are we becoming a world of voyeurs? Why blame the paparazzi. They are only feeding us what we are hungry for.
