The end of 2017 is nearing and it’s not been a good year for the Hindi movies. However, 2018 seems to have a robust platter of movies for Hindi Cinema lovers.
Akshay Kumar, one of the most bankable stars in the recent times, is coming up with the story of Arunachalam Muruganathan. The movie is named “Padman”. Akshay Kumar’s wife, Twinkle Khanna, who writes under the pseudonym Mrs. Funny Bones, has written a short story on Arunachalam Muruganathan in her recent book. Arunachalam is a social entrepreneur who has invented the low cost sanitary pad making machine. He’s had very adventurous experiences during his journey and they are worthy of being portrayed on celluloid. More importantly, a taboo subject will be addressed on the screen for the first time by a mainstream leading actor. The movie is directed by a very sensitive director, R. Balki, who is expected to do justice to the movie and also the subject. And we should all be watching this movie for its social relevance.
Karan Johar, as always, is launching two star kids in “Dhadak”, the Hindi remake of the Marathi super hit movie, “Sairat”. The star kids are Ishaan Khattar, who is leading actor Shahid Kapoor’s step brother and Janhvi Kapoor, who is the daughter of Sridevi, the leading actress of Bollywood and Boney Kapoor, a leading movie producer. Ishaan Khattar has worked on an international project of acclaimed Iranian Director, Majid Majidi, and has also won the best actor award for the said movies at the Turkey Film Festival recently. On the other hand, miles of newsprint and gigabytes of web space has already been dedicated to news on and pictures of Janhavi Kapoor. Both are stars in the making and there is going to be huge curiosity factor in the minds of the cine goers for them to watch the movie.
Sanjay Dutt’s biopic. Directed by Raju Hirani, the man with the Midas touch, whose movies are both, commercially successful and critically acclaimed. With Sanjay Dutt himself giving the go ahead for the movie and a dedicated and talented actor like Ranbir Kapoor playing Sanjay Dutt, this is one movie, all are waiting for. It is supposed to be a very honest movie which shows Sanjay Dutt, as the person he is, warts & all. No false glorification. He will be portrayed the way he is and has been in his life. His childhood, his troubled youth, his troubles with the law, his jail sentencing and his time there are all supposed to be truly depicted. With Raju Hirani at the helm, all are expecting this movie to be a masterpiece too.
Apart from these, Soha Ali Khan’s debut movie Kedarnath, Shah Rukh Khan’s movie where he is playing a dwarf, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ about India’s first Olympic Medal, Salma Khan in the “Race” franchise and Deepika Padukones next with Vishal Bhardwaj.
- It is going to be a movie goers delight. Looking forward to it.
